Show Notes

Today, some 55% of the world’s population – 4.2 billion inhabitants – live in cities this proportion will continue to increase rapidly to reach 70% by 2050, according to the World Bank. Urbanism and architecture are disciplines hat have a direct link and defining impact on people’s lives. The critical question that we must ask, is how to ensure cities are inclusive today and ensure inclusive urban futures tomorrow. The discussions on inclusion often focus on socio-economic aspects of people's lives, but is that all?

Inclusion in cities can also mean environmental inclusion, in other words ensuring everyone in cities has clean air, access to public and green spaces and most fundamentally the inclusion of nature in cities.

These are some of the key themes we explored with Chintan Raveshia, Arup Cities Business Leader for Southeast Asia, in this episode of the Inclusive Urban Futures.

As a trained architect and urban designer with close to 20 years of experience, Chintan has worked on some of the most iconic projects across the Asia Pacific, Europe and North America where he has lived. He currently leads Arup's Cities business in Southeast Asia, where he has been leading the plan for Indonesia's new capital city, implementing youth-centric precincts in Singapore, and designing Industry 4.0 estates across the region. Passionate about climate action, Chintan also leads opportunities on urban food resilience and walkability, galvanising against climate risks while exploring new opportunities. He is a World Cities Summit Young Leader and regularly contributes to international panel discussions and keynotes including TEDx. He also teaches at the National University of Singapore.
