Show Notes

COVID-19 has had far-reaching consequences for how we live, work, connect with one another as well as nature and other living things. In this episode of the Inclusive Urban Futures, we speak with Shraman Jha Director of Fund Raising, Marketing and Communications at World Wide Fund for Nature-India (WWF India).

In 2020 Director Jha left the corporate world and dedicated his career to the common good.

The mission of WWF India is to stop the degradation of the planet’s natural environment and build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature, by:

  • Conserving the world's biological diversity
  • Ensuring that the use of renewable natural resources is sustainable
  • Promoting the reduction of pollution and wasteful consumption

Shraman spoke about this education in India and United Kingdom and his stellar rise in the corporate world and jet-set life on several continents. He underlined, however,  that the work culture in this environment still values exhaustion, leads to burnout and suffers from ageism. Profit largely leads over a cause. These issues made him wonder how he could give back to society, join people who are truly passionate about their work while co-creating a work environment that is inclusive and dedicated to addressing pressing issues of today. And this is exactly what Director Shraman Jha is doing today, at one of the most critical moments in history.

For Director Jha inclusion is about knowledge and empathy.

“Whether you want to be inclusive or you don’t want to be, […] you have no choice, whether we like each other or not, we are all going to live in the planet for our lives” he said.

However, inclusion is not only about people, Jha also underlines. We are a part of our planet’s ecosystem and we cannot think about ‘us’ as humans alone, without the rest of the living things we simply cannot survive. That is why biodiversity and the preservation of our planet’s natural environment are more important now than ever.
